Billy Kart Kitchen

Celebrity chef, Ben O'Donoghue (chef) and wife Dee (front of house) own the Billy Kart Kitchen, a modern Australian restaurant situated in my local area, of Moorooka but also now in West End. The place in Moorooka in terms of atmosphere is hectic and vibrant and the restaurant itself modern and pleasant with plenty to look at. There is a growing wall up the back, book shelves with cook books and retro items, an open kitchen and there are really only two negative’s, it’s hot. There are no ceiling fans and it’s noisy. While it can be difficult to hear each other at times, it kind of adds to the dynamic ambience too.

The meals are prepared from local produce and super delicious and well presented. Breakfasts are divine although I thought the sides were over priced and pretty small. The coffee is Campos and beautifully made. There are specialty dishes and Billy Kart opens Friday nights for dinner. My advice is, for breakfast, go the corn fritters and Asian eggs with prawns. Lunch, the pulled pork or mussels and well, dinner changes regularly. The French themed night was amazing and genuine. I loved Billy Kart Kitchen...

Chapter Two Espresso

A relatively upmarket coffee house for coffee authority, Alen's Espresso, Arabica, Mocopan Coffee blend accompanied by many delectable desserts.  The space is large and central for those working the Roma street end of the city.

The food is pre-prepared yet having sampled a toasted cheese, egg, bacon and rocket panini, I have to say it was pretty good. While the place felt fairly comfortable, the atmosphere was a bit stark and cold, attempting to suit a corporate world of clean lines and straight edges? The coffee was good though and having perused the cabinets, the food healthy; offering gluten free options, quinoa, fruit and some amazing flavours like rosewater, lavender and lemon myrtle in the sweets.

Chapter two Espresso seems a pretty wholesome place and is very popular with the city working folk, on their way past in the morning or for that 10am fix.

In all honesty, if I was meeting someone for a coffee or bite to eat I wouldn't go there but would choose a place with character and some life to it, in saying that, while grabbing something healthy for breakfast or lunch or a coffee to go...it's ideal.
